X-ray and Bone Density Scans
Bone density scans and digital X-rays are common and safe procedures used to obtain images of your body, including your internal bones and organs. They are conducted by a radiographer (a medical imaging technologist) who will ensure you are comfortable and supported throughout the duration of the procedure.
X-rays are commonly used when a patient is presenting as having broken a bone, or when there is a lodgement or blockage within the body.
Some body parts are more sensitive to radiation than others, meaning you may be required to wear a lead shield during your procedure, in order to protect yourself. Female patients who could be pregnant also must let their radiographer know.
You may be standing, sitting or lying down, and the radiographer will ask you to stay still for a few seconds. How long your examination takes will depend on the complexity of your situation and the number of X-rays required.
We may be able to give you an indication of how long your appointment will take at the time of your booking, however this always depends on the amount of information required by your referrer.
If you would like to make an appointment to have an X-ray, please contact the team at Riverside Medical Imaging in West Gosford on (02) 4323 9200.
