  • Health and medical assessments
    Health and medical assessments

We have a range of health and medical assessments available for our patients, some of which include:

    -pre employment medicals

    -diabetes risk assessment tests

    Did you know?

Type 2 Diabetes is one of the largest contributors to the ill health in Australia, and type 2 diabetes accounts for 92% of diabetes cases.  Diabetes is associated with a number of complications, including an increased risk of developing cardiovascular, eye and kidney disease.  The incidence of Type 2 Diabetes has more than doubled in the last 15 years.

The onset of Type 2 Diabetes is largely associated with lifestyle risk factors, particularly overweight and obesity, physical inactivity and poor diet.  Type 2 diabetes can be prevented through lifestyle modification.  International evidence has shown that early lifestyle interventions in high risk patients can reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes by up to 58%.

If you would like to ascertain your risk of Type 2 Diabetes we recommend you have a diabetes evaluation at our practice.

  • Immunisation – all ages
    Immunisation – all ages

    For Children

All babies are born with minimal natural immunity to disease, immunisation can offer considerable additional protection against infectious diseases and is also a requirement for majority of child care facilities.

Without immunisation, children are much more vulnerable to serious infections such as whooping cough and meningitis. The benefits of immunisation far outweigh the small risk of side effects.

The Health Department requires that all children commencing school produce evidence of having completed all childhood immunisation and the doctors at this practice are able to issue certificates. All immunization are reported to the Childhood Immunization Register which is sponsored by Medicare Australia to record and remind parents when immunization are due.

Try down loading the ‘save the date’ app to help keep track.

Please feel free to discuss your child’s immunization needs with our doctors

    Other immunisations available

A comprehensive range of immunisations is available for all ages, including seasonal vaccines such as influenza and pneumococcal as well as travel vaccines.

  • Injury prevention and management

Injured patients will have access to a range of medical personnel including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, to ensure an integrated and prompt recovery with optimal outcomes.

    Work related injuries

Please inform reception staff of your situation.

  • Pap smears
    Pap smears

Cancer of the cervix is the second most common cause of cancer-related disease and death among women worldwide.

The best way to detect cervical cancer is by having regular Papanicolaou tests, or Pap smears. A Pap smear is a microscopic examination of cells taken from the cervix using a soft brush.

A Pap smear can detect certain viral infections, such as human papilloma virus (HPV) and other cancer-causing conditions. Early treatment of these conditions can stop cervical cancer before it fully develops. A woman may have cervical cancer and not know it because she may not have any symptoms.

Our experienced doctors are able to offer management of many common reproductive and sexual health concerns.

  • Skin Cancer Clinic
    Full skin cancer service

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Australia. While most skin cancers are found on the face, head, back and upper limbs, they can appear on any part of the body. The primary cause of skin cancer is UV radiation from the sun, but also from the tanning booths. Anyone can get skin cancer, especially if you have:
    • Fair skin and freckles easily
    • Light-coloured red hair and eyes
    • A large number of moles
    • Family history of skin cancer
    • Previous history of blistering sunburn
    • Spent a lot of time outdoors.

If you notice any spots /moles that may have newly developed or have changed, please make an appointment to see one of our doctors. It is a good idea to get checked once a year and if you have a concern, please see your doctor.

After prevention (slip slop and slap), early detection is the key.

It is best to get your partner or friend to check you over several times a year.

If you live alone, then good light, a full length mirror and a hand held mirror can be a big help.

    What to Look For

Any new or unusual or changed freckles, moles, sores or spots, even just reddened areas may be an indication of skin cancer.

By checking regularly you will get to know when something has changed.

Change is one of the important things to look for, any change of any time, a change in colour (any colour, including red, blue, black, brown, white), change in shape (e.g. it used to be perfectly round and now it looks like a map of Australia), change in surface pattern (e.g. it used to be smooth and it is now rough), or if it becomes a sore that won’t go away.

  • ECG heart assessments
    ECG

    What is an electrocardiogram (ECG)?

An ECG records the electrical activity of the heart. The heart produces tiny electrical impulses which spread through the heart muscle to make the heart contract. These impulses can be detected by the ECG machine. You may have an ECG to help find the cause of symptoms such as the feeling of a ‘thumping heart’ (palpitations) or chest pain. Sometimes it is done as part of routine tests – for example, before you have an operation.

The ECG test is painless and harmless. (The ECG machine records electrical impulses coming from your body – it does not put any electricity into your body.)

    How is it performed?

Small metal electrodes are stuck on to your arms, legs and chest. Wires from the electrodes are connected to the electrocardiogram (ECG) machine. The machine detects and amplifies the electrical impulses that occur at each heartbeat and records them on to a paper or computer. A few heartbeats are recorded from different sets of

What does an electrocardiogram (ECG) show?

The electrodes on the different parts of the body detect electrical impulses coming from different directions within the heart. There are normal patterns for each electrode. Various heart disorders produce abnormal patterns. The heart disorders that can be detected include:

    • Abnormal heart rhythms. If the heart rate is very fast, very slow, or irregular. There are various types of irregular heart rhythm with characteristic ECG patterns.
    • A heart attack (myocardial infarction)and if it was recent or some time ago. A heart attack causes damage to heart muscle and it heals with scar tissue. These can be detected by abnormal ECG patterns.
    • An enlarged heart. Basically, this causes bigger impulses than normal.

Your doctor will explain further and will recommend if an ECG is advisable

  • X-Ray
    X-Ray

    What to expect

A digital X-ray is a common, safe and fast procedure used to obtain images of your body.

There is no special preparation for an X-Ray. When you arrive at our clinic, after completing initial paperwork, you will be taken to the X-ray room and asked to remove relevant clothing and jewellery and to wear the provided examination gown.

Some body parts which are sensitive to radiation may be protected with a lead shield. The area to be examined will need to be exposed but the rest of you will be covered. The radiographer (medical imaging technologist) will position you between the X-ray tube and a special detector. You may be required to stand, sit or lie down. The radiographer will ask you to remain still the X-ray is taken (less than a second) and you may also be asked to briefly hold your breath.

    Procedure

How long your examination takes depends on the complexity of the examination and the number of X-rays required. Images are usually taken from different angles to provide the radiologist and your referrer as much information as possible. When you make a booking or drop in to see us, we can give you an indication of how long your appointment will take.

Female patients who are or may be pregnant must advise the radiographer (medical imaging technologist) when they arrive, and before the examination.

Please ask your doctor for further information.
