What is LED Therapy? Can LED therapy really help clear your complexion, prevent breakouts and remove scarring?

LED therapy was originally developed to accelerate the healing of surgical scars and other wounds and is now used to rejuvenate aging, problematic or dull skin.

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode – a light source that emits energy across the spectrum at different wavelengths (colours), and penetrates through different layers of your skin depending on the desired result (eg, reduce inflammation, restoring fullness and elasticity, treating infections). The skin cells use the light like a food in a similar way plants use sunlight – converting it to ATP and repairing damaged cells.  LED therapy is often administered via single light units or panels directed toward the skin – usually using a wand. It is pain free and non-invasive, but it is recommended to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight immediately afterwards while the cells are still sensitive.

LED treatments can be used for;

  • reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • improving uneven skin tone
  • reducing pore size
  • brightening the skin
  • rejuvenating dull skin

As mentioned earlier, different wavelengths or colours penetrate different layers of the skin, and therefore have a variety of uses.

Red: Good for healing; burns, scars, acne scarring. Red light stimulates collagen and accelerates healing. Red light penetrates deeply and has a range of benefits – from texture/tone, to acne and ageing.

Yellow: Good for hyperpigmentation (uneven skintone), darkness under the eyes, and smoothing complexion.

Green: Good for reducing redness, rosacea, puffiness and deep seated acne.

Blue: Good for acne or infected pores – shrinks subaceous glands, cold sores, bee stings and rashes.

If you are unsure which light is best suited to your complexion, our Reliance Rejuvenation skin expert and beautician Joanne will assess your skin and recommend accordingly. It can be done in your lunch-break, an LED session only takes 20 minutes.If you have any skin concerns, call 4304 1311 to make an appointment with Reliance Rejuvenation Clinic.
